Is My Company Ready for AI? The When, the How, and the How Much
Every leader we speak with asks the same question, usually in a lower voice than the rest of the meeting: Are we actually ready for this? It is the right question. AI rewards preparation and punishes enthusiasm without a plan. The answer rarely depends on the technology. It depends on three things you already know about your business.
When. You are ready when a process repeats, follows rules most of the time, and costs you hours every week. If your team re-types the same data, chases the same approvals, or answers the same questions, the timing is now. If your processes still change every month, document them first. AI cannot automate what no one has defined.
How. Start with one workflow, not a transformation. Pick the task with the clearest inputs and the most visible pain. Map it, automate it, measure it for 30 days, then expand. Companies that begin with a pilot build confidence and internal champions. Companies that begin with a company-wide mandate usually build resistance.
How much. Investment should match your size and your ambition:
- Small businesses (under 20 people): a focused automation of one or two workflows, typically a few thousand dollars, with payback measured in months.
- Mid-sized companies (20–200 people): a paid discovery phase, then a phased build across departments. Budget for the discovery before you budget for the build.
- Larger organizations: multi-agent systems, integrations across platforms, and governance. The investment is larger, and so is the cost of waiting.
The real cost is not the build. It is the hours your best people lose every week to work a system could do.
So — are you ready? Yes or no. If it is yes, or even probably, book a call with us. We will tell you honestly where you stand. And if the answer is “not yet,” we will tell you that too, along with exactly what to fix first.
